As part of a Callaghan Innovation R&D grant, a hydrodynamic model was developed to produce hindcasted and forecasted river flow and total suspended solids (TSS) predictions accounting for 95% of the Whaingaroa Harbour basin area. The model was calibrated to measured Waingaro River flow and TSS data, and was extended to account for remaining 12 largest catchments of the harbour. Daily model runs produce hourly model outputs which are published as an interactive online resource, with the user able to view a time-series of flow and TSS predictions for a selected catchment. The model has also been extended to predict river flow and TSS for the entire Waikato region.
