As part of a permit renewal for continued maintenance dredging in Port Taranaki, this study aimed to optimise the location of dredge spoil disposal. A large scale field data collection exercise was undertaken to calibrate models and determine the ecological effects of the dredge disposal. Wave modelling was used to determine how dumped dredge spoil would affect the local wave climate. A near shore trial placement of dredged material was followed by a monitoring programme to assess the findings of the study.
