Coastal Vulnerability Assessment of Port Louis, Mauritius

A coastal vulnerability assessment was undertaken to gain an understanding of the natural coastal hazards threatening Port Louis, Mauritius.

Wave climate, tides, tropical cyclone activity, flooding and tsunami hazards reports, relevant to Port Louis, were collated and reviewed in order to gain a clear representation of the natural coastal hazards threatening Port Louis. A tidal datum was established, and wave height return periods were calculated. These were used to determine a recommended minimum level for construction due to inundation levels, which incorporated storm surge, climate change, safety factors and sea level variability factors.
