Aqualink Cable Burial Assessment
Vodafone New Zealand commissioned eCoast Marine Consulting and Research to undertake an evaluation of the existing information concerning the depth of the Aqualink cable.
Vodafone New Zealand commissioned eCoast Marine Consulting and Research to undertake an evaluation of the existing information with respect to the burial depth of the Aqualink cable. This information consists of the previous monitoring surveys along parts of the route (some 10%), which was undertaken after the cable was laid (as built), in 2003 and in 2010.
The consent allowed for the installation and maintenance of the cable to a minimum depth of 0.6 m, with a target depth of 1.5 m. There is a further requirement for the cable to be buried to a depth of 2m at the Mean High Water Spring (MHWS) to Mean Low Water Spring (MLWS), and thereafter a minimum burial depth of 1m out to the 10m depth contour.
