Coastal Processes Assessment in Suva, Fiji
eCoast was commissioned by Scope Pacific Ltd to develop a Coastal Processes Assessment of the Baro Industrial Subdivision in Suva, Fiji.
eCoast Marine Consulting and Research was commissioned by Scope Pacific Ltd to develop a Coastal Processes Assessment of the Baro Industrial Subdivision in Suva, Fiji, following a proposal to construct a gas terminal on several lots, including some foreshore structures. This includes a ship anchor facility, a ship to shore hose connection facility, pipes connection platform, and a 10 m wide by 3 m access channel from the reclamation to Tamavua River channel. The study involved the evaluation of coastal erosion and damage to the existing geotextile and a recommendation on the building level of the proposed docking platform. In addition, a review of existing EIA reports and the proposed development plans was undertaken along with a data and literature search for the area site, including long term wind and wave data, rainfall data, historial aerial photographs and satellite images. A conceptual model of coastal processes and potential impacts was developed encompassing the extreme water levels expected at the site to develop a finished floor level for the docking platform, and specific recommendations to address erosion and damage to the reclamation.
