Beach Management and Coastal Engineering at Naisoso Island, Fiji
eCoast consultants were commissioned to investigate the coastal processes effecting Naisoso Island's newly formed beaches.
Naisoso Island has been developed by the reclamation/heightening of a remnant barrier spit feature located on the usually tranquil Nadi Bay. Overlooking the picturesque Mamanuca Islands, the beach front of the island has been developed into a wide, white, sandy beach, however, due to natural coastal processes, there are several areas that are experiencing chronic erosion, potentially devaluing this unique location. eCoast consultants were commissioned to investigate the coastal processes effecting the island's newly formed beaches and provide advice to ensure that they remain an important feature of the new environment. The focus of this study was placed upon the review of the current design of beach protection and advice on recommended changes, design and input for Lots 5-8 (Peppers Site) for beach rectification and remediation work to the groyne at Lot 8 and the design of groyne on Lot 5, beach and shoreline works to Lots 1-4 and any further groynes, and beach repair works to Lots 50-53, including any groynes or protection modules.
