New Zealand Regional Wave Hindcast/Forecast
eCoast has developed a modelling framework to simulate waves and hydrodynamics around New Zealand.
eCoast has developed a modelling framework to simulate waves and hydrodynamics around New Zealand driven by global models of tides, wind, air pressure and spectral wave conditions. The models have been developed using the open source Delft3D modelling suite. The New Zealand models have been used to create regional sub-models around the country including Southland. Boundary conditions have been collates and quality controlled, and the model is ready to hindcast waves and hydrodynamics back to 1979. The framework has also been extended so that waves and hydrodynamics can be forecasted 7 days into the future. The models provide a valuable resource in themselves but can also be used to drive higher resolution nested models and water quality models within the Southland region.
